comment: stresses oft. critical interpretation: refused to ~ on the situation. (critical批判性: 指清晰真实的评判, 不是批评)


commentate: is sometimes substitued for comment to sug. a purely expository or interpretive intent: ~ knowlegeably on current events.


animadvert: implies a remarking or commenting usu. of scholarly caliber or based on careful judgement: willing to ~ at length on topics in her field; but oft. emphasizes passing of adverse judgement: elders ~ on the content of rock music.
